Big problems require bold solutions.
The 100&Change Solutions Bank features proposals submitted for 100&Change, a MacArthur Foundation competition for a $100 million grant to fund a single proposal that will make measurable progress toward solving a significant problem. This competition was open to proposals from any organization from anywhere in the world, without restrictions on the problem being addressed or the location of work. The only major criteria were that the work have a charitable purpose, and that there be evidence of the proposed solution’s effectiveness.
While the competition itself had only one winner, many more proposals worthy of investment were submitted. MacArthur featured the Top 200 submissions that received the highest scores from its evaluation panel on the 100&Change competition website. MacArthur also created a public, searchable database of all the proposals on the competition site.
In developing the 100&Change Solutions Bank, Foundation Center and the MacArthur Foundation aim to bring greater visibility to these worthwhile ideas. We also hope to spark greater collaboration and learning among organizations tackling the same problem.
Using the site, you can:
- Search by subject area and geography to find ideas that hit close to home
- Read research that grounded and supported the ideas generated
- Connect with idea champions to discover potential collaborators
- Get inspired!

MacArthur is placing a few big bets that truly significant progress is possible on some of the world’s most pressing social challenges, including over-incarceration, global climate change, nuclear risk, and significantly increasing financial capital for the social sector. In addition to the MacArthur Fellows Program, the Foundation continues its historic commitments to the role of journalism in a responsible and responsive democracy, as well as the strength and vitality of our headquarters city, Chicago.
